Palani Hills

The different forests of Palani Hills such as dry deciduous forest, deciduous forest, Shola forest, Montane grasslands, Marsh wetlands, lakes, streams, and man-made water bodies like dams in the foothills creates the wonderful habitats for many birds species in the region. Wetland birds like Pelicans, Storks, Herons, Egrets etc has been recorded in dams like Palar, Kamarajar dam.

Palani Laughing thrush is one of the common bird in upper Palani hills. Nilgiri Pipits are surviving in grasslands of Upper hills and the middle hills are habitat for Malabar hornbill and Malabar Trogan. Nilgiri Flycatcher, Black and Orange Flycatchers are endemic to western ghats are which are common in the hills.Migratory birds like Asian brown flycatchers and wagtails are recorded in the hills.
